Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is based on the engagement in normal activities of day-to-day life to enable participation in these activities despite limitations or impairments in mental or physical functions. Examples of these activities include self-care, leisure, work, community and domestic activities. Some of the advantages that can be realized from occupational therapy include the enhancement of physical and mental health.

Our occupational therapy helps the child develop and maintain skills necessary to function in their environment. Staff therapists work to improve sensory processing, muscle strength, fine motor, visual motor and cognitive skills to enhance motor planning, attention to tasks, socialization, play skills and activities of daily living.

Our therapists have expertise in the areas of:

  • Sensory Processing and Modulation
  • Handwriting and Keyboarding
  • Self-Care Skills
  • Play Skills

Testimonial

GavinThe Somerset Children’s Center has played a positive role in the development of Gavin’s speech, occupational and physical skills. Gavin has a rare genetic disorder that causes severe developmental delay. When he first came to Somerset Children’s Center he had no means of communication. With the dedication of the therapists he developed the ability to point and touch on an AAC device. He is now able to communicate and is continuing to develop more language and skills. Thank You Somerset Children’s Center!
