Art Therapy
Art Therapy is delivered on an individual basis or with a group of children by a Board-Certified Art Therapist. By assessing each child’s developmental needs, every art experience will afford the opportunity to explore freely your child’s potential within an art medium. To master developmental skills relating to behavior, communication, interactions with others, understanding self and cognition, the therapist focuses on individual target patterns of strength, needs, feelings, interests, and experiences. Personal enrichment and problem solving through art enriches many skills such as: fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, concept building, organization of thoughts and an ability to identify feelings and cognitive skills.
As our therapist pointed out, “Children’s self-knowledge, confidence and willingness to take risks in new situations increase pleasurable experiences. Art therapy activities need to be sequentially structured at or below their current developmental level to maximize therapeutic opportunities for growth.”
